He joins CQ Partners from AEMO in Brisbane where he was Power System Operations Specialist and was actively involved in the day to day operations of the National Electricity Market. Steve has exceptional industry experience and we are very pleased to have him joining our team.

Reza has over 12 years experience in the energy industry, primarily in the areas of energy regulation, greenhouse and carbon markets and compliance.
Reza managed the CQ Partners team as primary energy advisor to Arcapita and Global Infrastructure Partners in a major mergers and acquisition project to purchase a substantial energy company operating across Australia. Reza has also provided advice on a number of energy and carbon strategic projects for major clients including SA Water, Babcock & Brown, Santos, Green 2 Gold and AGL Energy.
Prior to his work with CQ Partners, Reza managed the Energy Policy & Regulation Department for Flinders Power and Alinta Energy. Reza has held several leading industry positions including that of Chairman-National Generators Forum Market Working Group, Director-National Generators Forum, Deputy Chairman-National Generators Forum Greenhouse Working Group and ESAA Greenhouse Reference Group.
The level of energy markets knowledge, particularly in the carbon and renewable sectors has been well recognised and puts Reza in the top tier of regulatory and greenhouse experts in Australia.
Reza has a Bachelor of Business, is an AFMA Accredited Dealer and is an Associate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Lino has over 14 years experience in the energy markets and 8 years experience in financial capital markets with a very strong financial & risk management focus.
Lino has been actively involved in the commencement of the Short Term Trading Market for gas in Australia including putting in place the operational framework and systems for a client and developing and implementing gas management strategies. Lino has undertaken extensive financial modeling of the Western Australian energy market and associated businesses in relation to a mergers and acquisition project, focussing on wholesale and retail energy, gas and LNG markets. Lino has also provided energy strategy and risk solution advice to a number of major customers including SA Water, ATCO Power, BHP, and Origin.
Lino’s most recent experience prior to CQ Partners was Group Manager Risk & Compliance, Alinta Energy and Executive Manager Risk, Flinders Power. These roles were executive roles within two major Australian energy companies, providing strategies and advice on risk mitigation, portfolio optimisation, financial structuring, business development, due diligence and trading strategies. Lino has worked for retail and generation power companies in electricity and gas and his extensive experience includes the Australian NEM and the Western Australian markets. Lino has been successful in leading the Flinders Power refinance project ($A265 million), which was nominated for PFI Deal of the Year in 2006.
The combination of financial and energy markets experience and his extensive depth of knowledge allows Lino to provide clients with optimal corporate advice and services targeted at maximising commercial objectives within risk profiles.

Ian has over 14 years energy markets experience with a background in physical and derivative trading, trading strategy development, portfolio management, retail energy procurement, counterparty management and business development in electricity, gas and renewable energy markets.
Ian has managed a number of significant derivative structured projects and energy strategy projects, including work for Arcapita, ETSA Utilities, SA Water, Origin Energy, Alinta Energy and Aurora Energy (Tamar Valley).
Prior to joining CQ Partners, Ian was Acting Electricity Trading Manager, Alinta Energy, General Manager Marketing & Trading, Flinders Power and was previously a Senior Trader for AGL Energy. These roles were executive positions and Ian’s last role saw him responsible for managing an energy trading portfolio with annual revenues in excess of $A500 million per annum.
Ian led and negotiated the $A785 million Flinders Power long term hedging agreement and was also instrumental in the long term $A327 million gas supply agreement for the Osborne Power Station.
Ian has a wealth of market and trading knowledge and has worked for major companies in both the wholesale generation and retail sectors of the energy industry.
Ian has a Bachelor in Economics, an Associate Diploma in Accounting and is an AFMA Accredited Dealer.

John has over 15 years experience in energy markets, primarily in energy trading, risk management, contracting, systems and electricity market operation. Prior to his work with CQ Partners, John was General Manager Trading with Stanwell Corporation and Energy Risk Manager at Tarong Energy, two large Queensland generators. In both those roles John promoted the inclusion of risk in effective decision making, whether for trading, asset management or asset development.
Prior to moving to Queensland, John ran the Australian office for a leading New York based risk management consultancy, worked for a large US energy marketer in the USA, helped establish the New Zealand electricity market and was a financial markets trader in London.
Having worked extensively overseas and in Australia in trading and consulting roles, John has a wealth of experience in diverse energy market environments, including establishing and monitoring trading and risk functions, contract negotiation, systems selection, asset valuation and divestiture.
John has undertaken several major projects including the evaluation of electricity generation and gas supply options for new projects in Queensland.
John has an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management and a BSc (Honours) degree in Geology from the University of Bristol, UK.

Robert has over 14 years experience in the energy industry, primarily in the areas of business development, fuel strategy energy retailing and strategic planning. Prior to his work with CQ Partners, Robert managed the Business Development and Retail Energy teams for Babcock & Brown Power and Flinders Power. In the business development role, Robert managed business planning, modelling and key stakeholder lobbying, identification of target investments, due diligence processes, site selection and acquisition, connection agreement negotiation, valuation analysis and bid submissions. . In the retail role, Robert managed the company’s energy retailing business function including marketing, sales, negotiation and account management.
Robert has lead several major projects in energy business acquisition, brown-field generation development, fuel price negotiations, green-field project development approval and the negotiation of long term energy supply agreements.
The breadth of Robert’s energy markets knowledge and experience, working with multi-disciplinary teams of investment banking, engineering, financial and legal professionals provides a wide coverage of the competitive issues and challenges of the energy market. This level of energy market knowledge has been regularly acknowledged by engagement in creating and leading consortia of major energy market participants in developing projects parameters and bidding for new energy projects.
Robert has a Bachelor of Business (Majoring in Marketing), Accounting Diploma (TAFE), and is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Hong Khoo has 10 years experience in the National Electricity Market as an Energy Trader. Hong was an Energy Trader for Flinders Power between 2001 and 2008 where he was accountable for the successful implementation of electricity trading bidding strategies and day to day trading activities in both energy and ancillary service markets.
Hong has worked on a number of projects including assisting a client with new generation plant to establish their electricity operations function. Hong is currently undertaking gas trading and management on behalf of a CQ Partners client and major gas user in the STTM market. Prior to Flinders Power, Hong was an Energy Trader with TXU (now TRUenergy) Torrens Island between 1998 and 2000.
Hong has a depth of experience in electricity, gas and wind trading, major market event and plant outage management, market analysis, market bidding and trading system development.
Hong has a Bachelor of Economics from Adelaide University and is a CPA. Hong is also an AFMA Accredited Dealer. |

Iordan Halatchev

Iordan is the most recent member to join the CQ Partners team and has an exceptional analytical background. Prior to joining CQ Partners, Iordan was employed by SYDAC as a mathematical modeler and undertook the design and development of the Eurostar United Kingdom train simulator project.
Iordan’s exceptional mathematical and analytical skills (including mathematical modeling, algorithm and software development) has increased the analytical capability of the CQ Partners team. Since starting with CQ Partners, Iordan has been focussed on the newly emerging Short Term Trading Market for natural gas, has been undertaking daily gas management activities on behalf of a client and developing supporting software tools.
Iordan has a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Adelaide, Australia and also has a Masters Degree in Science (Physics). Iordan is a member of the Australian Mathematical Society and ANZIAM.
